I was born in El Salvador,
but as an infant we moved to Guatemala where I grew up. My parents
named me Dunia Fé de María Berganza Rodriguez. At the age of 25 I came
to the USA to study English. I had worked as a teacher in Guatemala and
Venezuela, but I wanted to learn more about working with exceptional
children. In Minnesota I took some courses to work with special
Education students. I eventually graduated with a degree in Education
from the College of Saint Catherine, got a Master’s degree in Science
of Education from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, and a
licensure to teach ESL at Hamline University in Saint Paul..
My husband, Paul Ruff, is a Psychologist in private practice and we
have four children and a dog. One of my hobbies is puzzles, especially
Sudoku, cooking and I also enjoy doing things with my hands like
embroidering, knitting, sewing and doodling. I can strike a few notes
on the guitar too.
In teaching, I always look for my students’ gifts and passions. I let
this be the gateway through which they can enter the world of learning.
Nací en EL Salvador, pero de bebé nos movimos a Guatemala donde me
crié. Mis padres me dieron el nombre de Dunia Fé de María Berganza
Rodriguez. Cuando tenía 25 años me vine a Minnesota a estudiar Inglés.
Yo había trabajado como maestra en Guatemala y Venezuela, pero quería
aprender más acerca de trabajar con niños excepcionales. En Minnesota
tomé varios cursos para trabajar con estudiantes que necesitaban
educación especial. Eventualmente, me gradué de la Universidad de Saint
Catherine con un grado en Educación, obtuve un post grado en Ciencias
de la Educación en la Universidad de Wisconsin y una licenciatura para
enseñar inglés en La Universidad Hamline en Saint Paul.
Mi esposo, Paul G. Ruff, es un sicólogo que trabaja en su consultorio
privado y tenemos cuatro niños y un perro. Uno de mis pasatiempos
favoritos es resolver rompezabezas, especialmente Sudoku, cocinar y me
encanta hacer cosas con mis manos como bordar, tejer, coser y
garabatear. Puedo tocar un poquito la guitarrra también.
Como pedagoga yo siempre busco en mis estudiantes sus dones y
pasiones.. Esto lo utilizo como el umbral para ayudarlos a entrar en el
mundo
